Joint Irish-UK Endocrine Meeting Belfast- Final Call and important update on public transport & parking!

Dear Colleagues,

For anyone who still needs to register, it is still possible to register online or in person at the meeting.  Please follow the link Registration | Society for Endocrinology

Unfortunately the deadline to attend the Gala Dinner in Belfast City Hall on Monday 14th October has now passed.  For anyone who has not managed to secure a ticket and would like to attend, please email IES-SFE2024@endocrinology.org to be added to the waiting list or speak to the SfE Staff at the exhibition stand in the exhibition hall in the conference.  The team will let you know if a ticket becomes available.

For anyone travelling by public transport, please double-check your travel times.  The new Belfast Grand Central Station will open on Sunday 13th October and translink have advised that there are some changes to timetables.  The enterprise train from Dublin will arrive and depart from Grand Central Station and not Lanyon Place as it did previously.  The conference centre is roughly a mile from the new station- it is possible to get a connecting train or bus to Lanyon Place from Grand Central Station, a taxi or walk.

There are a number of carparks in the city centre.  Please check with your hotel as many hotels will have arrangements for discounted rates for your stay.

I hope that this information is helpful- I wish you all a safe journey and look forward to seeing you in Belfast.

Best wishes

Helen

Professor Rob Semple, the programme secretary shares why you can’t miss the Joint Irish-UK Endocrine Meeting!

Dear Colleagues

Please find the personal message below from Professor Rob Semple, the programme secretary why you can’t miss the Joint Irish-UK Endocrine Meeting!

“I hope this message finds you well. I’m excited to personally invite you to the first-ever Joint Irish-UK Endocrine Meeting at the ICC in Belfast between 14 – 15 October 2024. This meeting brings together the brightest minds in endocrinology from the UK and Ireland, along with outstanding speakers from further afield.

We’ve worked hard to curate a diverse and insightful programme, including:

  • Professor Eystein Husebye’s opening keynote on adrenal insufficiency, marking the 40th anniversary of the UK Addison’s Disease Self-Help Group.
  • Professor Sir Steve O’Rahilly’s closing keynote, sharing his recent insights into human endocrinology and reflecting on his personal experience of training across the UK and Ireland.

You can also expect a strong focus on diabetes and metabolism, featuring more content in this area than at our usual SfE BES conferences. Highlights include updates on diabetes remission, community diabetes care, and metabolic syndrome, with contributions from top experts.

There are also fantastic opportunities in the programme for early career delegates to present their work, either via posters, case reports, or plenary orals available.

Hope to see you there!
