On the International Women’s Day, the Irish Endocrine Society Committee would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Professor Fidelma Dunne, the President of Irish Endocrine Society, on having been selected as the recipient of the American Diabetes Association’s 2024 Norbert Freinkel Award. The Nobert Freinkel Award is presented to a researcher who has made outstanding scientific contributions to the understanding and treatment of diabetes and pregnancy. The American Diabetes Association’s 84th Scientific Sessions will be held on June 21 to 24, 2024 in Orlando, Florida. The Norbert Freinkel Award Lecture will be presented on Sunday, June 23, 2024 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

It is timely to acknowledge the long standing working relationship and research collaboration with many members of the society around the country which has contributed to this award. In particular I wish to extend my appreciation to all the Endocrine trainees over the last 20 years who have worked on and published research findings in DiP. Lastly my work in Diabetes in Pregnancy has only been possible through the support of skilled colleagues in the Institute of Clinical Trials at the University of Galway, Galway University Hospital and the Saolta Hospital group.”
